Emergency Shelter program

+

The Caring Place’s Emergency Shelter Program serves homeless men, women, and families and utilizes a comprehensive approach to ending the cycle of homelessness. The program provides a community atmosphere in which the principles of homeless recovery are taught and incorporated into the lives and daily activities of its residents. These principles include: Personal Accountability, Knowledge, Respect for Self and Others, Facing Reality, Restitution, Long Range Planning, and Commitment. In addition to these core principles, program participants will have access to substance abuse treatment, behavioral health, career & employment services, and financial planning. The primary goal of this program is to obtain identification, income, and other documents necessary to secure and maintain housing. In this program, classes are mandated based upon each participant’s particular housing barriers.

If you are in search of emergency shelter and want to enter our program please contact the Homeless Helpline at 211 or 1-877-994-HELP (4357) – Miami or (954) 563-4357 – Broward

Transitional Housing program

These homes offer a safe and supportive community where residents can regain their dignity and independence, while benefiting from the structure, guidance, and resources necessary to rebuild their lives, achieve long-term stability, and create lasting change.

The Caring Place’s Transitional Housing Program

+

In response to the housing crash in 2008, The Caring Place began providing limited transitional housing for our guests exiting our programs in Miami and Broward County. Each transitional house provides our graduates with the opportunity to live in a community of like-minded people.

These safe and supportive environments provide our residents with dignity, independence, and the structure necessary to achieve effectual and lasting change.

To be eligible for our transitional housing, the applicant must have successfully completed their time in one of our shelters or have graduated from one of our recovery programs. Additional requirements may apply.

Faith Based Awareness program for women

The AWARENESS Program, established in 1981, supports women and children from diverse backgrounds, often facing domestic violence, homelessness, or financial hardship.

The Caring Place’s Faith-Based AWARENESS Program for Women:

+

Since 1981, the AWARENESS (A Woman’s Answer Regarding Education, Nurture, Encouragement, Self-esteem, and Salvation) Program has been serving women and children from a wide range of populations, ethnicities and cultures. The women we serve are typically from low-income backgrounds, fleeing domestic violence and abuse, do not have a support system, or are simply in need of help in order to get back on their feet after experiencing homelessness. This comprehensive program is about six months long and is designed to help each woman adjust and stabilize their lives in the areas of housing, income, education, employment, and independent housing.

Regeneration Program for Men

The Regeneration Program is a long-term, Christ-centered recovery initiative. It emphasizes lasting change through Biblical principles, offering participants case management, substance abuse treatment, health care, and counseling.

The Caring Place’s Faith-Based Regeneration Program for Men

+

The Regeneration Program is a long-term Christ-centered recovery program that embraces the Housing Plus model of care. This program utilizes Biblical principles and other comprehensive approaches to aid in ending the cycle of homelessness. Instead of focusing on fast results, this program recognizes the time that is needed to change behaviors and achieve goals like sobriety. The Regeneration Program includes a 16 week discipleship and relapse prevention phase known as Alpha. Prior to the Alpha Program participants receive case management, substance abuse treatment, education classes, health care, counseling services, and more via valuable community partnerships and in house efforts. After the Alpha program is completed our graduates are able to focus on attending college/vocational school, seeking employment opportunities and/or restoring relationships and reuniting with their loved ones.

The 4 Stages of the program:

+

1- Jericho

Allow the walls to come down and take a look at students’ individual barriers. Students start with counseling by an assigned case manager and begin a tailored adult education skills program at our Education Centers).

2- Pre Alpha

Students start learning and growing through 8 principles (building blocks) that are built on Judeo/Christian principles. Each student receives a Christian Service Assignment.

These Christian Service assignments allow our residents to put the principles that they are learning into practice while providing them with a platform to learn important job skills.

3- Alpha

Students now enter the upper phase of the program. This is a 16-week intensive discipleship training that coincides with goal planning and relapse prevention. These students lead others that are just entering The Caring Place (TCP).

4- Omega

In the final phase of the program, students get ready to transition back to independent living. Some students choose to enroll in local colleges to earn vocational or educational certifications or degrees to enhance their job prospects, while others may look for immediate employment or affordable housing. At the completion of this phase, each TCP graduate will walk the stage at a cap and gown ceremony.

Education Department

TCP’s Jeffrey A Tew Education Center in Miami and the Education Department in Broward have significantly improved the learning abilities of thousands of students, bringing about a strong sense of pride, achievement, and improved self-esteem.

From the onset of joining the Regeneration Program, each student is evaluated regarding his academic abilities by TPC’s education department. A personalized academic plan is created based on these results. From here students will learn at their own pace using computer-based learning and one-on-one tutoring. In addition to traditional subjects like math and reading, the education department also teaches essential life skills such as personal finance (budgeting, banking, credit, etc.), job-seeking and retention skills (resumes, interviewing, effective communication, responsibility, integrity, etc.), and digital literacy (computers, software, cell phones, internet), preparing students for the eventual transition to independency and maintenance of a fulfilling lifestyle.

Our Education Department also assists our residents from our Emergency Shelter Program.  Although it is not as comprehensive as the program outlined above, with the help of our volunteers and community partners we are able to offer a wide range of life skill classes and even a few electives like Spanish and guitar.  Additionally, our emergency shelter residents are able to use the computer lab to increase their life skills, look for employment and housing, and/or update their resumes.

TCP’s Education Department ensures that every student has the necessary life skills and digital literacy to make a successful transition to independent living.

Volunteers frequently share their professional or educational experiences through lectures or workshops. The topics are not limited to employment or formal education, but cover a wide range of subjects intended to help our residents develop new perspectives and make better decisions for happier, more effective lives. Whether it’s sharing experience, education, or providing a listening ear, volunteers are always welcome at TCP!
