Our History

Miami Rescue Mission Inc (a 501 c 3 agency) is one of the oldest and largest providers of emergency human services in the South Florida community. We have served South Florida for 100 plus years! We are now known as The Caring Place with centers in Miami and Broward Counties. The mission was established in 1922 and served the Miami community throughout the Great Depression and World War II. It started under a tent and now provides services to those in need in over 20 buildings throughout Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, including an Education Department and has had many buildings it has served from throughout the years. The mission has always followed Judeo-Christian principles and has a strong faith component. It serves all people without regard to ethnicity or religious beliefs.

The Caring Place (Miami Rescue Mission and Broward Outreach Centers) serves some of the most economically and socially disenfranchised individuals in our community. These individuals and families have challenging problems: poverty, unemployment, addiction, domestic violence, chronic/mental health issues, and lack of education and financial crisis. We first provide them with the basic necessities of life … meals, shelter, showers, hygiene, clothing and other vital services. We also offer life changing Regeneration programs that include computerized adult education classes, mental health counseling, individual case management, budgeting and life-skill classes along with soft job skill training

We host many street outreach events and drive-thru outreach events throughout the year to help fulfill our Mission and Vision statements; currently serving over 10,000  individuals in a year.

The mission is also involved in helping our clients receive safe and affordable housing, including using our owned housing units for those who fall through the cracks of obtaining housing.

Our goal is to show God’s love in practical ways and help people find that they have a God-given purpose in life and can be empowered to find their path.
